Lyrics: Candy Says

Recorded at: The Bullet Sound Studio, The Netherlands on November 10, 1993

Candy says I've come to hate my body
and all that it requires in this world
Candy says I'd like to know completely
what others so discretely talk about
Candy says I hate the quiet places
that cause the smallest taste of what will be
Candy says I hate the big decisions
that cause endless revisions in my mind
I'm gonna watch the blue birds fly over my shoulder
I'm gonna watch them pass me by
Maybe when I'm older
What do you think I'd see
If I could walk away from me

This song written by Lou Reed is about a travestite called Candy Darling who
starred in Andy Warhol’s films Flesh (1968) and Women In Revolt (1970).

Later, Lou Reed refers to Candy in his famous Walk On The Wild Side:
“…Candy came from out on the island,
in the back room she was everybody’s darlin’
But she never lost her head
Even when she was givin’ head
She says hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
Said hey babe, take a walk on the wild side …”
