New blog on Blind Melon’s myspace

January 23rd, 2010 by Vincent

Glen Graham has just posted a new blog on myspace:

Some of you are probably wondering what’s going on? Well… there is a documentary in the works that should be out later this year and oh yes, the singer search…

We are still very interested in finding an appropriate addition to this band. You may recall that twelve years elapsed between the first two incarnations of Blind Melon. Perhaps we can shave off a few years this time.

If you or someone you know is interested in filling some rather large shoes, email an Mp3 or Youtube link of your/their rendition of any song in our catalogue to
If we like what we hear you will be hearing from us very soon.

We know you’re out there,

Glen (Saturday, January 23, 2010)

Good to hear from you. I wish I could sing haha but I can’t. I hope you all find what you are looking for. Lord knows I miss Blind Melon.

Thanks so much for the update, Glen. Your fans wanted and needed on. The documentary is very exciting and I can’t wait to see it. I hope it contains some of the hours and hours of footage Shannon shot on his personal video camera back in the day.

Keep up the search for a singer, please! The four of you are so talented and your music speaks to me unlike that of any other band. Your sound is original and unique and your fans need more of it. While Shannon was one of a kind, Travis was an excellent replacement and I was amazed at how well he pulled it off. That gives me encouragement that you’ll be able to find another singer. It’s a big world and there’s a lot of talent in it — Travis Warren can’t possibly be the only living person capable of fronting you guys. Don’t give up the search, don’t get discouraged and don’t ever forget that your fans will support you when you’re ready. (And please don’t make us wait another 12 years to see you guys live, either!). Much love to Blind Melon.

Why don’t ye do the old santana deal with a bunch of singers. Refurbish that Rebirth song too, the music and lyrics are wicked. I listen to that tune everyday. L8r

Ok, I hope you read this Glen. I hope somebody reads this..

    First off,
I want to see an instrumental Blind Melon album.
And I think a lot of Melon fans would like to see that.
I think an instrumental album would sell like hotcakes to your dedicated fans.
You gotta remember, most of your fan base isn’t listening to hear the singer anymore, they’re listening to hear you guys!
No matter what singer you guys reel in, the fans are going to the concerts to see Blind Melon. Which is YOU.

I mean, Travis was great! He could sing just like Shannon. He even had the same stage presence as Shannon…
    But that’s just it!
    It’s unoriginal man,
And I think one of the things that made you guys so great in the first place was that you were unique, Original.

To see Travis on stage, singing, and acting just like Shannon used to, there’s just no way that can’t come across as phony.
No offense to Travis at all.
    But it was simply phony.
He wasn’t being himself, he was being Shannon Hoon..
    It was phony.
Which is something that just doesn’t seem to suit Blind Melon.

I think if you guys were to get a new singer, it should be someone drastically different, they should sing Shannon’s songs with the same passion, but not sing LIKE Shannon,, you know?
Be themselves, be an individual, be unique.

That’s what i saw in Shannon’s work. Purity. He was what he was.
He didn’t try to be someone else.
He opened his true self to the world.
That’s why millions of people connected with him. Not because of the way he sang.

When I saw this post on Beemelon today, I thought,
“My god, a shot at becoming Blind Melon’s singer.. I could do it, I’ve been singing Blind Melon songs for years now, but I sing them differently, in a different key, in a different way.”
And MY GOD THE PRESSURE! Holy moly the pressure…
How could anyone go up there and try to sing just like Shannon and survive the pressure..

I have so much respect for you guys. So much,
I will support you guys no matter what you do.
But I can’t wrap my head around why you’ve been trying so hard to emulate Shannon’s sound.
I just don’t think it’s what your fans want.

I hope you guys are looking for something different this time around.
I will always be a Melon Head all my life,
but for the soul of Blind Melon, I hope you guys are looking for a “DIFFERENT” singer.

Blind Melon needs an ORIGINAL singer.

Tons of respect to Travis, but it wasn’t right. Maybe he realized that too.

The new singer doesn’t need to fill Shannon’s old shoes…
He needs to bring his own.

*Thank you for all the good vibes over all these years. Your music and your story has saved lives.
