Years before the tune showed up on the Guns N’ Roses 1991 album “Use Your Illusion I,” a little band in Lafayette was playing “Don’t Cry” in their set.
That little band, which was called Styff Kytten, happened to have a young Shannon Hoon as its lead singer.
Mike Kelsey (Styff Kytten guitarist) said he was careful to call the show Project 88 instead of a full-on Styff Kytten reunion. The musicians wanted to respect Hoon’s memory and include other musicians who were rocking stages more than 20 years ago. Kelsey revealed that a portion of Saturday’s show will have the guitarist playing solo, acoustic versions of Blind Melon songs. “It is the best way I know how to celebrate the spirit of Shannon,” he said.
Kelsey and fellow Styff Kitten members drummer Barry Koch and bassist Brian Bundy will reunite for “Project 88,” a semi-Styff Kytten reunion and celebration of the local rock scene circa 1988. The show will be at 9 p.m. Saturday July 3rd at Nick’s Riverside, 402 Brown St., West Lafayette, IN.

Thanks to Daniel for the tip

During the DC live interview yesterday, Glen Graham told Curt Bisquera about his e-session drumming experience: basically, you can hire Glen Graham to put drums or percussion on your own musical project. All you have to do is send your song, then Glen will make 3 complete takes that you can use as you wish and send the song back to you.
“… this is the wave of the future…” said Glen.
Rogers Stevens and Brad Smith also record e-sessions.
